Google has issued a serious warning to Gmail users, confirming that 250 crore (2.5 billion) accounts are at risk of hacking through Artificial Intelligence (AI). Cybercriminals are trying to obtain sensitive information from users by posing as Google support agents.
How are cybercriminals cheating?
According to a Forbes report, hackers are calling users and claiming that their Google account has been hacked. They send users a recovery code and ask them to recover the account by using it. The emails and recovery codes sent by hackers look completely real, so users can easily fall into their trap.
Take these steps immediately to keep your account safe
If you get a suspicious call or email, ignore it immediately. If you have accidentally used the recovery code, change your Gmail password immediately. To change the password, go to the Settings of your Android device.
Now tap on the Google option and select your name. Click on Manage your Google Account. Go to the Security tab at the top. Click on the Password option under How to sign in to your Google account. Enter the new password and tap Change Password. If you forgot your password, tap Forgot my password and follow the on-screen instructions.
Use two-factor authentication to further strengthen Gmail security.
To increase the security of your Gmail account, make sure to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). This additional security measure will ensure that even if hackers get your password, they will not be able to access your account.
