Your Money-Your Right: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Wednesday that approximately ₹2,000 crore has been returned to rightful owners so far under the 'Your Money, Your Right' campaign launched by the government in October 2025. He stated that the objective of this initiative is to ensure that every citizen can easily recover their lost financial assets.
Large amounts of unclaimed funds in the country, public awareness needed
The Prime Minister stated that a significant amount of public funds remains unclaimed in various financial institutions across the country. Approximately ₹78,000 crore in Indian banks, ₹14,000 crore in insurance companies, ₹3,000 crore in mutual funds, and approximately ₹9,000 crore in dividends remain unclaimed. He said these facts are shocking, as this wealth represents the hard-earned money of countless families across the country.
Dedicated portals designed to simplify the claim process
The government and regulatory bodies have launched several dedicated portals to assist citizens, enabling them to easily locate and claim their unclaimed funds. These include the RBI's UDGAM portal (unclaimed bank deposits), the IRDAI's Insurance Bharosa portal (unclaimed insurance amounts), the SEBI's MITRA portal (unclaimed amounts related to mutual funds), and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs' IEPFA portal (unpaid dividends and unclaimed shares).
Reaching Rural Areas, Help Camps in 477 Districts
Prime Minister Modi stated that through a joint effort by the government, regulators, banks, and financial institutions, help camps have been set up in 477 districts across the country, both urban and rural, with special attention paid to remote areas. Thanks to these efforts, a large number of citizens are recovering their old savings. The Prime Minister urged people to check if they or their families have any unclaimed deposits, insurance proceeds, dividends, or investments.
He encouraged people to use the relevant portals and camps to recover their assets. He said, "Take action today and get your rights back. Your hard-earned money is yours. Let us ensure it is returned to you. Together, let us build a transparent, financially capable, and inclusive India."
