Your Aadhaar is about to change once again; now there will be no name or address, only QR code with photo on the card...
You likely already know how important Aadhaar is today. All your financial access is impossible without it. Naturally, such a crucial document poses a significant risk of misuse. Anticipating this risk, the government has once again announced changes to make Aadhaar more secure. The upcoming new Aadhaar card will only contain your photo and a QR code. The previously written name, address, and Aadhaar card number will be removed.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is considering issuing Aadhaar cards with the holder's photo and a QR code to prevent misuse of personal information and discourage offline verification. Speaking at a conference on Aadhaar, UIDAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhuvnesh Kumar stated that the authority is considering introducing a new rule in December to discourage offline verification by organizations such as hotels, event organizers, and other organizations. Furthermore, the age verification process using Aadhaar will be streamlined while maintaining individual privacy.
What will the new Aadhaar card look like?
Kumar said, "We're considering why any additional details are needed on the card. It should only contain a photo and a QR code. If we print more information, people will believe that, and those who know how to misuse it will continue to do so." This means that the Aadhaar card will now contain only your photo and a QR code, keeping all your information confidential and preventing misuse.
Breaking Rules in Verification
According to the Aadhaar Act, no individual's Aadhaar number or biometric information can be collected, used, or stored for offline verification. However, many organizations collect and store photocopies of Aadhaar cards, raising the possibility of fraud or misuse. To prevent this, all Aadhaar information is now being de-anonymized, so that by restricting offline verification, misuse of people's information can be prevented.
What are the rules for Aadhaar verification?
Aadhaar verification in India cannot be performed without the holder's consent, and any institution found to do so could face a fine of up to ₹1 crore. This consent must be obtained in biometric or electronic form, which can be obtained from the holder through OTP, fingerprint, iris, etc. Only institutions and banks authorized by UIDAI can verify Aadhaar. Users can also lock their biometric data, allowing only OTP to be used. Anyone found to misuse Aadhaar data can also face a hefty fine.
