Women's Day 2026: Delhi has many special schemes for women, from free bus travel to financial assistance..
Women's Day 2026: International Women's Day is celebrated every year on March 8th. The purpose of this day is to empower women and raise awareness about their rights. In this direction, the Delhi government is also running several schemes for women, aimed at improving their safety, convenience, and economic status. These schemes provide women with various benefits, including travel, education, and financial assistance. Let's learn about some of the ongoing schemes for women in Delhi:
Pink Card
To make travel easier and affordable for women in Delhi, the government has introduced the Pink Card. This card comes under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC). With this card, women can travel completely free on DTC buses. Digital payments can also be made using the Metro and other public transport. Three types of cards have been created under this system: the Pink Card for women, the Blue Card for general passengers, and the Orange Card for passengers with monthly passes. This card makes travel more convenient and safe.
Meri Kapit Mera Adhikar
The "Meri Kapit Mera Adhikar" initiative has also been launched to strengthen girls' education and their future. Under this initiative, funds have been directly transferred to the bank accounts of existing beneficiaries of the Delhi Ladli Scheme. An amount of ₹100.25 crore will be transferred through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to over 40,000 Ladli Scheme beneficiary daughters. Its primary objective is to encourage the birth of daughters, support their education, and reduce gender inequality in society.
Free LPG Cylinders
The Delhi government has taken another significant step to provide financial relief to women and their families. Ration card-holding families are provided with free LPG cylinders twice a year. This assistance is provided during Holi and Diwali. The first installment was transferred to the head of the family's account before Holi. This scheme provides significant relief, especially to poor and middle-class women.
Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana
Under this scheme, the government will deposit a total of ₹56,000 in multiple installments, which, combined with interest, will eventually amount to ₹1 lakh. This amount will be transferred directly to the daughter's Aadhaar-linked bank account. This money will be disbursed when the girl turns 21 or completes her graduation or diploma. Thus, the government deposits in multiple installments will add up to ₹1 lakh and be credited to the girl's account upon graduation or attaining 21 years of age.
The Delhi government is also working on several other schemes for women. These include the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samriddhi Yojana (proposed), which provides monthly financial assistance to economically disadvantaged women. The Swadhar Yojana provides support to women in difficult circumstances. Women's hostels and rehabilitation centers are also being provided for working women and those in need.
The objective of all these schemes is to empower women financially, enhance their security, and help them become self-reliant in society.
