LPG Subsidy: A woman from West Bengal who visited the bank to check her LPG subsidy status was shocked to find ₹100 crore in her account. The bank immediately froze the account. Here is the full story.
LPG Subsidy Check: If ₹100 crore suddenly appeared in your bank account, you might not believe your eyes. Something similar happened to a woman from West Bengal. She had gone to the bank simply to check if the LPG cylinder subsidy had been credited, but she was stunned when she saw the account balance.
Stunned by the ₹100 Crore Balance
According to reports, the bank account of 36-year-old Kashmira Sheikh, a resident of South 24 Parganas district, suddenly showed a balance of ₹99,99,99,997—just ₹3 short of ₹100 crore. She discovered this while checking her balance at the Kultali Jamtala branch of Punjab National Bank.
Kashmira comes from a modest family. She works in *zari* (gold thread) embroidery, while her husband supports the family by stitching bags. They live in a small house with an asbestos roof. Naturally, the entire family was shocked to see such a massive sum in the account.
Bank Freezes the Account
However, this amount brought trouble rather than relief. The bank has frozen her account and initiated an investigation into the matter. Until the inquiry is complete, she cannot withdraw money or conduct any transactions.
Similar Incidents in the Past
This is not the only such case reported in West Bengal. Previously, Nupur Gupta, who runs a cloud kitchen in Kolkata's Beliaghata area, found ₹47 crore suddenly credited to her account. She immediately informed the bank, prompting a joint investigation by the police, the bank, and the Income Tax Department. Preliminary information suggests that a technical glitch in the banking system or server might be behind these incidents; however, there has been no official confirmation yet. Punjab National Bank has stated that the matter is under investigation but has not yet explained how such large sums appeared in the accounts. The actual cause of the entire incident will only be revealed once the investigation is complete.
