Will you be fined for driving alone with a learner's license? Know the rules
If you are learning to drive and start driving alone on the road immediately after obtaining a learner's license, is that wrong? Find out what the essential rules regarding learner's licenses say.
If you start driving with a learner's license while still learning, be aware that doing so could cost you dearly. Driving with a learner's license requires adherence to certain mandatory rules; ignoring them could result in a traffic fine.
Often, people set out to drive alone as soon as they start learning, without being aware of the regulations associated with a learner's license. If you hold a learner's license, remember that a person with a valid driving license must be present in the front seat while you are driving. In other words, a learner is not permitted to drive alone. There are other requirements to follow as well.
Display the 'L' mark
When driving with a learner's license, it is mandatory to display a red 'L' mark on both the front and rear of the vehicle. This indicates to others that the driver is currently learning. Do not forget to display this mark, as violating the rule can lead to a hefty fine.
How much is the fine?
If a driver operates a vehicle without a valid license and fails to comply with the prescribed rules, they may face a fine of up to ₹5,000 under Section 3/181 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Additionally, they could face imprisonment.
Understand insurance claim rules
If an accident occurs while a driver is operating a vehicle with a learner's license but failing to follow the rules, obtaining an insurance claim may prove difficult. Whether or not the claim is granted will depend on the insurance policy and the circumstances of the accident.
