Here is an important update for those investing in the stock market. If you are planning to trade in the coming days, please note that the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed during the next few trading sessions. Within the next 8 trading sessions, there will be a total of 3 market holidays. This means that on these specific days, the stock market will remain completely closed, and no trading will take place.

Tomorrow—March 26, 2026—the stock market will remain closed on the occasion of Shri Ram Navami. Subsequently, on March 31, 2026, trading will again be suspended due to Mahavir Jayanti. Furthermore, on April 3, 2026, trading will remain completely closed on both the BSE and NSE in observance of Good Friday. Due to these three holidays, there will be intermittent breaks between consecutive trading sessions. Notably, all these holidays fall on weekdays—that is, working days—which will have a direct impact on trading activity. It is also worth noting that the Indian stock market remains closed every Saturday and Sunday. Consequently, when these holidays are combined with the weekends, investors may face an extended trading hiatus.

Additional Market Holidays

Following Good Friday, there will be one more holiday in April. On April 14, the stock market will remain closed on the occasion of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti. In the month of May, investors can expect the market to remain closed for two days, meaning there will be two holidays for the BSE and NSE during this month. After June, there will be a significant gap, with the next holiday occurring directly in September. Additionally, during the latter part of the year—in October and November—the market will remain closed for two days each, while December will feature a single market holiday.

Total Holidays in 2026?

Looking at the entire calendar year of 2026, the NSE and BSE observe holidays on various major festivals and national occasions. These include days such as Republic Day, Holi, Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti, Good Friday, Ambedkar Jayanti, Maharashtra Day, Bakrid, Muharram, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Diwali, and Christmas. Excluding weekends, the market will remain closed for a total of 13 days. Investors need to plan their trading and investment strategies, keeping these holidays in mind. This is particularly crucial for those engaged in short-term trading or derivatives, for whom it becomes even more imperative to formulate a sound plan regarding expiry dates, positions, and cash management.
