Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently announced that the Fastag-based annual pass worth Rs 3,000 will be applicable from August 15, 2025.

If you travel on the highway daily and are fed up with the hassle of paying toll tax repeatedly, then there is good news for you. The central government has announced the launch of a new annual pass for Fastag users, but the question is whether this pass will work on all highways in the country and who will not get the facility? Let's know the terms and conditions of this scheme.

When will the new Fastag pass be implemented?

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently announced that the Fastag based annual pass worth Rs 3,000 will be applicable from August 15, 2025. This pass will be valid for one year or up to 200 toll trips, whichever is earlier. This means that if you cross 200 toll plazas in a year, you will not have to pay any additional fee.

Where will it work?

But will this pass work on all the highways of the country? The answer is - no. This annual pass will be valid only on national highways and expressways operated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). If you pass through state highways or private toll plazas, then this pass will not work there and you will have to pay separately from your Fastag wallet.

What will be the benefit?

The specialty of this pass is that it will save both time and money of the passengers. For example, if an average fee of Rs 50 is charged at a toll plaza, then the cost of 200 trips can be Rs 10,000, but with this annual pass you can get this facility for just Rs 3,000.

Who will get the facility?

The question is also whether everyone will get the benefit of this new Fastag facility, then let us tell you that not everyone will get the benefit of this facility. This pass is only for private, non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps and vans. That is, if you have a commercial vehicle like taxi, cab, bus or truck, then you will not be able to take advantage of this annual pass. Also, your Fastag should be active and not blacklisted. If there is no balance in the Fastag or it is not properly installed on the windscreen, then it can be blacklisted, due to which cash payment may have to be made at the toll.

How will it be activated?

To get this pass, you have to visit the official website of NHAI or 'Highway Yatra' app. From August 15, 2025, a new link will be made available here through which you will be able to activate the annual pass on your Fastag.
