Why might prices rise before Diwali?
During Diwali, the workload at sweet shops, confectionery stores, hotels, and restaurants increases significantly, which often leads to higher consumption of commercial LPG. Similarly, the demand for domestic gas cylinders also rises as a variety of dishes are prepared at home. Due to this sharp surge in demand and the need for oil companies to recover their costs, the likelihood of a price increase becomes quite high.
To provide relief from inflation to the general public, oil companies sell domestic gas cylinders at prices lower than the actual cost, which results in losses for these companies. To compensate for this, companies raise the prices of 19-kilogram commercial cylinders. Consequently, any increase in gas prices has a direct impact on the operating costs of these businesses.
