Birth Certificate Based On Aadhaar: Birth certificates issued solely based on Aadhaar cards will not be considered valid in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Such documents may be cancelled.

Birth Certificate Based On Aadhaar: Recent decisions in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra have caused some concern among the public. Many families had obtained birth certificates based on their Aadhaar cards, and now the question is whether these documents will remain valid. The governments of both states have clarified that Aadhaar cannot be used as proof of date of birth.

This is because the date of birth recorded in Aadhaar is not verified against any official document. Consequently, many certificates issued based on Aadhaar are now under scrutiny. If your birth certificate was also issued based on your Aadhaar card, it may be cancelled. Here's what you need to do.

Aadhaar Not Recognized as Proof of Birth

The UP government has clarified that the date of birth entered during Aadhaar card registration is not verified against any authentic document. Therefore, it is not considered safe to accept it as proof of date of birth. For any government process, from appointments to promotions, only birth certificates, high school mark sheets, or certificates issued by the municipal corporation or health department will be considered valid.

The Maharashtra government has also initiated action on the same basis. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that birth or death certificates issued solely on the basis of Aadhaar will be considered fake or suspicious and will be immediately cancelled. This step has been taken to prevent cases where certificates were being obtained using fraudulent documents.

What to do if your Aadhaar-based certificate is cancelled?

If your birth certificate was issued solely based on your Aadhaar card and is now in the category of being cancelled, there is no need to panic. You will need to submit valid documents for a new birth certificate. These include high school mark sheets, birth records issued by the hospital, records from the municipal corporation, parents' documents, or any other official proof that establishes your date and place of birth. Apply to the relevant department, submit the documents, and complete the process to prevent any future issues. We want to make sure you don't have to face this problem again.
