Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Charges: A toll of ₹675 for a one-way trip and ₹1,010 for a round trip has been fixed for the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, making it one of the most expensive routes in the country—though there are valid reasons behind this pricing.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Charges: People have been eagerly awaiting the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway for quite some time, and now, that wait is nearly over. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the expressway on April 14, after which it will open to the public permanently. Discussions regarding the toll charges on this expressway are currently taking place everywhere. If you are planning a weekend getaway to the hills, it would be prudent to check your FASTag balance beforehand.
The NHAI recently made a major announcement regarding the toll rates. For a one-way journey from Delhi to Dehradun, you will be required to pay a toll of ₹675, while the cost for a round trip (return journey) completed within 24 hours will amount to ₹1,010. Consequently, this route has emerged as one of the most expensive roadways in the country.
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is a project spanning approximately 210 kilometers, designed to make travel between Delhi and Dehradun faster and more convenient. The toll rates on this expressway have been determined based on the type of vehicle, as follows:
For cars and SUVs, the toll for a one-way journey is expected to be around ₹670–₹675.
Conversely, for a return journey completed within 24 hours, an additional charge of up to approximately ₹335 may be levied.
For mini-buses or Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs), the toll is expected to be around ₹1,100, while for large buses or two-axle trucks, it could exceed ₹2,300.
A significant highlight is that the stretch of the expressway from Akshardham to the Loni Border will remain toll-free.
Will the FASTag Annual Pass be Valid? It is worth noting that the annual FASTag pass is fully valid on this expressway. Since this is a National Expressway, the rules of the new ‘Annual Pass’ scheme—implemented by the Central Government effective August 15, 2025—apply to it. You will need to pay ₹3,075 to obtain this pass. It remains valid for a period of one year or 200 trips (whichever occurs first), starting from the date of activation.
Benefits of the Monthly FASTag Pass
Most importantly, for those who commute along this route on a daily basis, a monthly or annual FASTag pass can prove to be a more economical option. Residents living in the vicinity of the toll plaza can also avail of a ‘local pass’ for approximately ₹330. For frequent travelers, this can result in overall savings of up to 30–40 percent on travel expenses.
Why is the Toll Expensive?
It should be noted that the construction of this expressway was not as straightforward as that of ordinary roads. The route traverses through the forests and hilly terrain of the Shivalik range, necessitating the use of advanced, high-tech engineering techniques. Furthermore, this road helps reduce a journey that would typically take 6–7 hours down to just 2.5 hours. This results in significant time savings, which is why the cost is considered justified by many travelers.
