Why PM Kisan’s 21st Installment Is Delayed: Key Reasons Farmers Must Check

Millions of farmers across India are eagerly waiting for the 21st instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. While this payment is usually credited on schedule, a delay is being observed this time, causing concern among beneficiaries. Interestingly, a few states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir have already received the payment, raising questions about why others are still waiting.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the possible reasons behind the delay and what farmers should verify to ensure their instalment does not get blocked.

Post-Election Timeline Raised Expectations

Earlier, many believed the delay was connected to the Bihar Assembly elections, as governments often avoid major beneficiary-related announcements during the election period. Now that the results are out, expectations have risen that the central government may release the pending 21st instalment soon.

PM Kisan: How the Instalments Work

The PM Kisan scheme provides ₹6,000 annually to eligible farmers, distributed in three instalments of ₹2,000 each. Payments are made every four months directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

  • The 20th instalment was released in August 2025.

  • The next instalment, the 21st, is scheduled for November 2025.

However, many farmers may not receive the amount until certain verifications are completed.

Why Is the 21st PM Kisan Instalment Delayed?

1. Mandatory eKYC Not Completed

The government has made eKYC compulsory for all registered farmers under the scheme.

  • OTP-based eKYC can be completed online on the PM Kisan portal.

  • Biometric eKYC must be done at the nearest CSC centre.

If a farmer’s eKYC is not updated, the instalment gets automatically stopped until it is completed.

2. Eligibility Verification Issues

Agriculture departments in several states have found discrepancies during verification checks. These include:

• Land Ownership Changes After 1 February 2019

Farmers who purchased land or changed ownership details after this date are undergoing additional verification to confirm eligibility.

• Multiple Family Members Receiving the Instalment

In many instances, two or more people from the same family—such as husband and wife or an adult and a minor—were found receiving PM Kisan benefits.
Such cases require physical verification, and payments remain on hold until the process is completed.

Farmers are advised to check their eligibility status on:

  • The PM Kisan official website

  • The PM Kisan mobile app

  • The Kisan eMitra chatbot

This helps confirm whether their documents and information are updated and accurate.

When Will the 21st PM Kisan Instalment Be Released?

As per the scheme’s regular cycle, the upcoming instalment is expected to be released in November 2025.
However, farmers whose verification or eKYC is still pending may receive the amount only after their records are fully approved.

Which States Have Already Received the 21st Instalment?

Some regions received the payment earlier due to natural calamities and special circumstances:

  • Himachal Pradesh

  • Uttarakhand

  • Punjab

Heavy rainfall and landslides in September 2025 affected these states significantly, prompting the government to release the instalment early.

Additionally, farmers in Jammu & Kashmir received the 21st instalment on 7 October 2025.
