Income Tax Department 24x7 Control Room:  Keeping in mind the upcoming Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections in 2025-26, the Income Tax Department has started preparations to keep a close watch on the misuse of money power in the electoral process. As part of this, a state-of-the-art control room is being established in Mumbai, which will be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The objective of this control room is to ensure fair, free, and transparent elections after the election code of conduct comes into effect. In particular, strict monitoring will be maintained on activities such as illegal documents, unaccounted cash transactions, black money, and the distribution of money or valuables during election campaigns.

According to the Income Tax Department, this control room will function as an election surveillance system throughout the election period. Along with this, the general public will also be made aware that if they receive any information about the distribution of money, illegal cash, black money, or other valuables during the elections, they should immediately share it with the department.

For this, the Income Tax Department has activated its official channels such as WhatsApp, tax messaging system, phone calls, and email so that information can be received easily and quickly. The department has assured that immediate action will be taken based on concrete and reliable information, thereby maintaining the dignity and transparency of the electoral process.

Keeping an eye on unaccounted cash

The Income Tax Department has also clarified that their main focus during the elections will be on the identification and seizure of unaccounted cash. Concerns have long been raised about such activities in local body elections. Officials believe that the role of the general public in this regard is extremely important, as many times such activities remain hidden from public view, which local people can easily identify. Only through public cooperation can these illegal activities be curbed.
