Whose Aadhaar cards are being blocked? UIDAI has deactivated 1.17 crore numbers so far

Aadhaar Card: UIDAI has started a new service on the myAadhaar portal for deaths registered in 24 states and union territories - Reporting of Death of a Family Member.
Aaadhar Card: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has deactivated more than 1.17 crore 12-digit Aadhaar numbers so far. This step is being taken so that the Aadhaar numbers of people who have died cannot be misused.
Under this initiative, UIDAI has started a new service on the myAadhaar portal - Reporting of Death of a Family Member for deaths registered in 24 states and union territories. So that in case of death of a family member, the person can come to the portal and inform UIDAI about it. An official statement issued on Wednesday said, to maintain the continued accuracy of the Aadhaar database, UIDAI is actively adopting these measures to obtain death records from various sources and deactivate Aadhaar numbers after proper verification.
UIDAI has said that it has asked the Registrar General of India (RGI) to share death records linked to Aadhaar numbers and has received about 1.55 crore death records from 24 states and union territories using the Civil Registration System (CRS). After proper verification, about 1.17 crore of these Aadhaar numbers have been deactivated. Work is still being done to deactivate the number on the basis of about 6.7 lakh death records.
Under 'Reporting of Death of a Family Member', in case of death of a family member, a member of the family of the deceased will have to provide proof of his relationship with the deceased. The Aadhaar number, death registration number and many other details of those who have died will have to be given on the portal. The information provided by you will first be verified and then the process of deactivating Aadhaar will begin. UIDAI is also taking the help of state governments for this work. As a pilot project, information related to Aadhaar card holders above 100 years of age is being shared with the state governments to help find out whether they are alive or not. The Aadhaar number will be deactivated only after receiving the verification report.
