The Madhya Pradesh (MP) government is set to provide free scooters to students under the 'Mukhyamantri Scooty Yojana' (Chief Minister's Scooty Scheme). A decision has been made to provide scooters to over 7,500 students this year. However, there are specific conditions attached to this offer, as the scheme is exclusively for meritorious students. Financial assistance for purchasing the scooter is transferred directly into the students' bank accounts.

**What are the conditions for the free scooter in MP?**
The Madhya Pradesh government has laid down certain criteria for the Mukhyamantri Scooty Yojana. It stipulates that free scooters will be provided only to meritorious students from government schools who have passed Class 12. Students are eligible if they have passed the Class 12 examination in their first attempt with a minimum of 70% marks. Additionally, students who secured the first position in their respective schools are eligible for this scheme.

**What is the process for obtaining the free scooter in MP?**
Students do not need to apply or fill out any online forms for this scheme. Beneficiaries are selected directly through a verification process at the school level. Once the MP Board Class 12 results are declared, principals of all government schools prepare a list of their school's toppers. The school administration verifies the documents of these eligible students. The verified list is then forwarded by the school—via the District Education Officer (DEO)—to the MP Education Portal or Vimarsh Portal. After the government releases the final merit list, the financial assistance amount is transferred directly to the selected students' bank accounts via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

**How much financial assistance is provided?**
The Madhya Pradesh government transfers funds via DBT to the accounts of selected students for purchasing the scooter. The amount ranges from ₹90,000 to ₹1.20 lakh, allowing students the flexibility to choose between an e-scooter and a petrol scooter. A maximum of ₹1,20,000 is provided for an e-scooter, whereas ₹90,000 is given for a petrol scooter. This amount is deposited directly into the student's account; if the student does not have an account, the funds are transferred to their parents' account.

It is reported that the government may extend the scooter benefit to over 7,500 students on September 16. However, it is also being said that the funds will reach the students' accounts by September 19.

Students cannot transfer or sell a scooter purchased under the Chief Minister's Scooter Scheme for a period of three years.
