The aim is to enable women to cover essential expenses and avoid financial dependence on others. In this context, the Delhi government has introduced major changes to its financial assistance scheme for women.
What changes have been made to the scheme?
The most significant change is the renaming of the scheme. Previously known as the 'Mahila Samriddhi Yojana,' it has now been renamed the 'Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.' Under this scheme, eligible women will receive ₹2,500 in monthly financial assistance, transferred directly to their bank accounts; however, only those meeting the specified eligibility criteria can avail of this benefit.
When will the scheme launch, and who is eligible?
According to reports, the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is set to launch around Raksha Bandhan. Not every woman will be eligible for the scheme; the government has established specific eligibility conditions, and financial assistance will be provided based on these criteria.
Understanding the scheme's rules
Only the eldest woman in the household will be considered eligible.
Crucially, only one woman per family can avail of the scheme's benefits.
The applicant must have been a resident of Delhi for at least 10 years.
The scheme is exclusively for women from poor and low-income families.
Please note: A woman cannot avail of the scheme if any family member has a criminal record. Additionally, women from households that own a car (four-wheeler) will not be considered eligible for the scheme.
