Whether it is LPG e-KYC or OTP, a lapse in either could prove costly starting October 1! New rules come into effect for gas consumers..
LPG consumers are set to face a setback as the month of October begins, due to the implementation of new rules regarding LPG cylinders. The first to be affected will be those who have not completed their KYC verification by September 30; starting October 1, consumers who have not completed e-KYC will not receive subsidized gas and will have to purchase cylinders at market rates. However, even those who have completed their KYC may face difficulties.
Consumers who have completed e-KYC could also face issues if their registered mobile number is inactive, as this would prevent LPG delivery. A new rule mandating the use of an OTP (One-Time Password) has been introduced.
**Strict OTP Rule**
A gas agency in Noida has clarified that while LPG deliveries were previously made without an OTP, strict regulations are coming into effect on October 1. Gas cylinders will no longer be delivered without an OTP; the delivery person will not hand over the cylinder until the consumer provides the OTP sent to their registered mobile number. Providing the OTP will be mandatory.
**Issues if Mobile Number is Inactive**
Upon booking a cylinder, an OTP—referred to as a DAC code—will be sent to the consumer's registered mobile number. This code must be kept safe until the gas is delivered, as it must be shared with the delivery person upon arrival. If the registered mobile number is inactive or not functioning for any reason, the consumer will face problems, as the OTP is sent exclusively to that registered number. To resolve this, consumers must either reactivate their registered mobile number, visit the agency to register a different number, or update the details via e-KYC.
The objective behind these stricter LPG regulations is to identify fraudulent consumers, enhance the security of cylinder deliveries, and curb black-market activities.
