At the arrival lane of Terminal 3 at Delhi Airport, entry was being granted only to vehicles with an active FASTag. Those without one were being redirected elsewhere. In response, the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) has issued instructions to the banks involved.

People often visit railway stations or airports to drop off or pick up friends and relatives. If you happen to visit Delhi Airport for such a purpose, this information is relevant to you. An issue concerning FASTag has emerged in the arrival lane of Terminal 3 at Delhi Airport.

Specifically, vehicles lacking an active FASTag—or those with insufficient balance—were facing difficulties gaining entry into the Terminal 3 arrival lane. Addressing this, the NHAI consulted with the banks managing the airport's parking payment systems and issued necessary directives.

Where can vehicles without a FASTag go?

According to complaints, only vehicles with an active FASTag were permitted to enter the Terminal 3 arrival lane. This raises the question: where were vehicles without an active FASTag being directed?

Where were vehicles without a FASTag sent?

Vehicles lacking an active FASTag were being redirected toward the multi-level car parking facility. This caused significant inconvenience for many individuals.

NHAI holds discussions with banks

Regarding this matter, the NHAI stated that FASTag is intended for toll payments and should not be used as a mechanism to restrict vehicle entry.

Are there charges for stopping in the arrival lane?

Yes; if a vehicle stops for more than 8 minutes while dropping off or picking up someone at the Terminal 3 arrival lane of Delhi Airport, a prescribed fee will be charged. In other words, there is an 8-minute grace period, after which charges apply. Previously, if a vehicle’s FASTag was not active, it would be redirected to a different parking area; by the time this process was complete, the 8-minute free window would have already expired, forcing the vehicle owner to pay a charge.

NHAI issues instructions to banks

The NHAI has addressed this issue by consulting with IDFC Bank—which operates at the airport—and other banks associated with the parking facility, instructing them to use FASTag exclusively for payment purposes.
