The Delhi government is making a major change to its free bus travel scheme for women. Instead of pink paper tickets, women will now be given a contactless Pink Saheli smart card.

The Delhi government is making a significant change to the free bus travel facility for women, which will make bus travel even more convenient for them. The Delhi government will provide a contactless smart card to women to avail of free bus travel, allowing them to travel easily on buses. Previously, women were given pink paper tickets during their journey, but now this pink ticket will be replaced with the Pink Saheli card.

When will the card be available?

According to the Delhi government's plan, this card will be available to women from 2026, i.e., the new year. The card will be implemented across Delhi by January 2026. This smart card aims to make the scheme completely digital. The Delhi government will provide the Pink Saheli card to women for free bus travel. With this card, women can avail of free bus travel by simply tapping their card on the electronic ticketing machine with the bus conductor. According to official figures from the Delhi government, approximately 2 crore women benefit from and use this free bus travel every month, which is a significant number.

The government will get accurate passenger data

This new change will provide the government with accurate data on women's travel, which will help in increasing the number of buses on crowded routes and better managing the bus services, so that passengers can travel without any hassle.

Aadhaar card made mandatory

The biggest change in this scheme is the mandatory requirement of an Aadhaar card. To obtain the Pink Saheli card, an Aadhaar card with a Delhi address is necessary. This means that only women who are residents of Delhi can obtain this smart card and avail of free bus travel. The card will contain all the beneficiary's information, making identification easier.

Where and how to get the Pink Saheli card? If a woman wants to get a Pink Saheli Smart Card, she can apply for it at the DM or एसडीएम (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) offices, Common Service Centres, or her nearest bus depot. Registration counters will be set up at all these locations across Delhi to ensure a smooth and hassle-free application process.
