During the festive season, the central government has gifted a bonus to lakhs of railway employees across the country. In a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a proposal for a Productivity-Linked Bonus (PLB) for railway employees was approved. This decision is set to benefit over 11 lakh employees nationwide. Under this significant government initiative, eligible non-gazetted railway employees will receive a bonus equivalent to 78 days' worth of wages.

The central government has allocated a total budget of ₹2,009.61 crore for this scheme. According to official data, approximately 11,40,770 railway employees will directly benefit from this bonus in the current financial year.

When will railway employees receive the bonus?
Typically, the PLB is disbursed to railway employees before the Durga Puja or Dussehra holidays. This means the bonus could be credited to the employees' accounts before October 20. The bonus is primarily awarded to diligent staff who play a crucial role in train operations and maintenance. This includes track maintainers (trackmen), loco pilots, train managers, station masters, supervisors, technicians, pointsmen, and other Group 'C' and ministerial staff.

How much will the railway employees receive?
As per the established rules, a minimum wage threshold of ₹7,000 has been set for the calculation of this Productivity-Linked Bonus, allowing each eligible employee to receive a maximum bonus amount of ₹17,951.

According to the Railway Board's directives, eligible employees also have the option to voluntarily deposit all or a portion of their bonus amount into their State Railway Provident Fund (SRPF) account.
