How do scammers trap people?

3. Scammers tell people on the phone that they will send a code (OTP), which has to be entered to join the group call.
4. Then they ask you to share that code (OTP) with them so that you can join the call.
This code registers your WhatsApp on another device. Due to this, your WhatsApp account goes into the hands of fraudsters. After this, they enable two-step verification in the account, due to which the user is not able to log back into his account.
Then what do fraudsters do?
After stealing the account, scammers send messages to the people in the contact list and demand money on the pretext of help. Scammers ask people to send money immediately, saying there is an emergency.
How to avoid WhatsApp Group Scam?
To keep your WhatsApp secure, use two-step verification. This provides an additional layer of protection. With this, no one else will be able to log into your account. Also, never share your six-digit PIN with anyone, even if they are your friends or relatives. If you receive any suspicious message, then call that person directly and find out its authenticity.
