WhatsApp Update: WhatsApp is bringing this unique feature to stop fake pictures, know how it will work?
To deal with the problem of fake pictures circulating on WhatsApp Web, the Meta-owned platform may soon introduce a new feature. A report claims that the platform is working on a new reverse image search feature, through which users can find out the reality of the picture themselves. It will be like Google's reverse image search, in which Google allows users to find out about the real background of the pictures through image search. This feature can be accessed through the overflow menu on WhatsApp Web, which will be activated by tapping the three-point button in the image viewing interface. The feature will search reverse images through Google.
WhatsApp features tracking website WABetaInfo has reported in its report that WhatsApp is soon going to introduce a reverse image search feature on its web platform, which aims to help users identify fake pictures and deal with misinformation. It is reported that the messaging platform's new feature will help in quickly uploading images to Google and verifying their authenticity directly from the app. The feature is currently available in beta testing of the app for Android and will soon be available on WhatsApp Web as well.
The report further states that the reverse image search function will allow users to upload a photo to Google to verify the image. In this way, users can find out whether the picture in the information they receive is real or fake.
In recent times, WhatsApp along with other social media platforms is being used as a weapon to circulate fake pictures or messages. In such a situation, this feature can prove to be helpful to some extent in curbing it. However, here we have to keep in mind that the feature will not do a reverse image search automatically, but the user will have to use it himself.
The publication says that this feature will be accessible through the overflow menu, which will be activated by tapping the three-dot button present in the image viewing interface. After selecting this option, the Google reverse image search process will automatically search the reverse image.
Apart from this, let us tell you that WhatsApp support is going to stop for many smartphones from January 1, 2025. WhatsApp's parent company Meta has said that WhatsApp will not work on those Android devices from the new year that run on KitKat OS or older versions. WhatsApp takes such steps every year so that the security and functionality of the app continue to work better with new technologies. It is worth noting here that Android KitKat was introduced in the year 2013. This means that WhatsApp support is going to stop in very old smartphones. It will continue to work as before in normal devices.
