Are you also bothered by repeated notifications in group chats? WhatsApp is rolling out a new and exciting feature. Soon, you'll be able to mute @everyone mentions in groups, allowing only the notifications you truly want to see. Let's learn more about this feature...

WhatsApp constantly introduces new features for its users. Now, it's reported that the company is testing an option in the Android app that will allow you to mute @everyone mentions in group chats. Often, in large groups, everyone uses "everyone," which allows all members to receive notifications simultaneously. This feature can sometimes prove to be annoying, especially when used repeatedly or unnecessarily. To address this issue, WhatsApp is now preparing to introduce a feature that will allow users to control notifications.

WABetaInfo reports

WhatsApp information platform WABetaInfo reports that a new feature called "Mute @everyone" has been spotted in Android version 2.25.27.1. This version is currently available as a beta update, but the feature hasn't been activated for any users yet. According to the report, this feature may be rolled out for testing in the future. A new "Mute @everyone" option has appeared in the notifications section of WhatsApp's settings, which is off by default. This means only the user who needs it can turn it on.

Why is this feature being introduced?

WhatsApp previously made the @everyone feature available to all group members, allowing any member, not just the admin, to mention everyone simultaneously. However, it was often used unnecessarily, resulting in repeated notifications, and this feature became a problem for many users. For this reason, WhatsApp is now developing a reverse feature, which will give users control over whether they want to receive such notifications. Importantly, even if a group is completely muted, users can still enable notifications from @everyone.

When will it launch?

This feature is currently in development and not available even to users in the beta program. According to reports, WhatsApp may release it for testing in the coming weeks, after which it will be permanently rolled out to everyone. This feature will prove extremely helpful for those who are part of large groups and are bothered by frequent notifications. It is believed that its introduction will further enhance and personalize the WhatsApp group chat experience.
