Following the Re-NEET UG 2026 exam, estimates regarding the “safe score” and All India Quota (AIQ) cut-offs for admission to government MBBS colleges have emerged. Find out which scores are considered safe for different categories.

With the Re-NEET UG 2026 exam concluded, lakhs of candidates are now awaiting the results and cut-offs. The biggest question on everyone’s mind is: what score is considered safe for securing admission to a government MBBS college? Estimates for safe scores have been derived based on trends from previous years and the counseling process.

What score is required for admission to a government MBBS college?

Competition for admission to government medical colleges following Re-NEET UG 2026 is expected to remain intense. Estimates suggest that a score of 610 or higher can be considered safe for General category students. Meanwhile, scores of 600+ for EWS, 590+ for OBC, 520+ for SC, and 490+ for ST are considered good. However, the final cut-off will be determined only after the results are declared and the counseling process takes place.

Candidates scoring 680 or higher have a strong chance of securing admission to AIIMS and other top government medical colleges in the country. Students scoring between 650 and 679 also have excellent prospects of getting into top-tier government colleges. Those scoring between 620 and 649 have good chances under both the AIQ and state quota systems. Students scoring between 600 and 619 can expect to secure a seat in various government medical colleges, while admission for those scoring between 550 and 599 will depend on the specific state, category, and counseling process.

What might the cutoff be for the 15% All India Quota?

Under the 15% All India Quota (AIQ), students from across the country compete against one another; consequently, the cutoff here is usually higher. It is estimated that the cutoff could range from 615 to 630+ for the General category, 610 to 625+ for EWS, 590 to 610+ for OBC, 520 to 550+ for SC, and 500 to 540+ for ST.

Factors that could influence the cutoff

This year’s cutoff will depend on several factors. If the exam is easy and a large number of students secure high marks, the cutoff could rise. Conversely, if the paper is difficult, the cutoff might see a slight decline. Additionally, the number of candidates appearing for the exam, available MBBS seats, reservation policies, and counseling trends will play a crucial role in determining the final cutoff.

What should candidates do after the results?

Once the results are declared, candidates should begin preparing for AIQ and state quota counseling based on their scores and ranks. They should keep a list of their preferred medical colleges ready in advance and organize the necessary documents in a timely manner. This will ensure a smooth process without any complications during counseling.
