Gold prices are declining due to profit-booking and increased selling in the international market. Global investors are currently very cautious as they await the US Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates. Due to uncertainty regarding potential changes in interest rates, traders are withdrawing funds from gold and silver to seek safer alternatives. Notably, the next US Federal Reserve meeting is scheduled for September 15 and 16, 2026.
The strengthening of the Dollar Index is also a major reason for the drop in gold prices today. Whenever the US dollar strengthens, gold and silver prices in the global market come under pressure. A stronger dollar makes purchasing these metals more expensive for holders of other currencies, leading to a temporary dip in demand. Furthermore, when the dollar strengthens, investors tend to withdraw money from gold. Since gold is a non-yielding asset—meaning it does not generate fixed interest or dividends like bank FDs or government bonds—people often sell it to withdraw their funds amidst the possibility of rising interest rates.
