The Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana will also be formally launched on this occasion. The government says that this initiative is not just about financial assistance but a major step towards enabling girls to access higher education and become self-reliant.
President Draupadi Murmu will attend this event. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that a large number of beneficiary girls will receive funds directly into their bank accounts. So, let's now explain what the Delhi government's Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana is and how much money will be deposited in girls' accounts under it.
How much money will be deposited into girls' accounts under the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana?
According to the Delhi government, a total of ₹100 crore will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of 40,642 girls whose accounts have been registered under the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. This amount, along with interest, will be deposited at different stages of their education. According to officials, this amount is not the same for everyone, as many beneficiaries were registered later rather than at birth. Under this government scheme, ₹56,000 will be deposited in each girl's name in different stages.
How did the Ladli Yojana become the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana?
Ladli Yojana, launched in 2008, aimed to ensure that girls' education was not interrupted. Under this scheme, a fixed amount was deposited at birth, followed by installments in grades 1, 6, 9, 10, and 12. This amount could be withdrawn upon reaching the age of 18. This scheme has now been expanded and developed as the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. Under the new arrangement, a total of ₹56,000 will be deposited into daughters' accounts. After interest is added, this amount is expected to exceed ₹1 lakh by the age of 21. Daughters will receive the maturity amount only if they enroll in or complete a graduation or a recognized professional diploma.
Who will benefit from this scheme?
This scheme will benefit families with an annual income of less than ₹1.20 lakh and who have been living in Delhi for the past three years. To benefit from the scheme, the daughter must have been born in Delhi. A maximum of two daughters per family will be eligible. Registration can be done within one year of birth or within the prescribed educational stages. Furthermore, fulfilling the requirements related to higher education will be mandatory.
