What is the booking price for a domestic LPG cylinder today? Have rates increased ahead of Diwali?

While the prices of commercial LPG cylinders have been rising consistently for the past three months, the prices of domestic LPG cylinders have remained stable since June. State-run oil companies have made no changes to them.

In India, LPG cylinders are widely used for cooking. Consequently, LPG prices represent a significant component of both household budgets and the operating costs of hotels and restaurants. Even a minor fluctuation in price can have a substantial impact on monthly expenses.

There is some relief for domestic LPG consumers during this festive season. According to the latest price updates, state-owned Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have not altered the rates for 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders for November 2026. The prices remain unchanged from the previous month; in other words, the rates in effect at the start of the month continue to apply. The last adjustment to domestic LPG prices occurred on June 7, 2026, when the cost of a standard domestic cylinder was increased by ₹29.

Why do prices vary by location?

LPG cylinder prices are not necessarily uniform across the country. Final retail prices are determined by several factors, including transportation costs, distributor commissions, local taxes, and geographical location.

It should be noted that the Value Added Tax (VAT) and local body taxes levied on LPG vary from state to state. In states where tax rates are higher, LPG cylinders are more expensive. Furthermore, the cost of transporting LPG from a refinery or a bottling plant—where cylinders are filled—to your city and the local distributor also influences the price. The greater the distance between the refinery and the city, the higher the transportation charges, which in turn increases the price of a cylinder in that location.
