KYV, or Know Your Vehicle, has now been made mandatory for Fastag vehicles across the country. Just as KYC is required for a bank account, every vehicle owner must now prove that the Fastag installed on their vehicle is genuine, correct, and belongs to that vehicle. The National Highway Authority of India implemented this to make the Fastag system secure and transparent. So, let's explain whether the traffic police can seize your vehicle if you don't complete KYV.

Why has KYV been made mandatory?

The National Highway Authority of India has been receiving frequent complaints about misuse of Fastags. Many people were using the Fastag tag for one vehicle on another. Some Fastags were also found to be fake. Furthermore, in several cases, truck drivers were found using car Fastags. To prevent these irregularities and ensure complete verification of Fastags, KYV has been made mandatory. Now, every Fastag must be linked to its original vehicle number.

Which vehicles will need to complete KYV?

According to the NPCI circular, all Fastag users must complete KYV. This requires uploading information and documents such as the vehicle registration certificate, a front photo of the vehicle, and a side image to the Fastag provider's app or website. If your KYV is incomplete, your Fastag will be considered non-verified. Your Fastag will not be scanned at toll plazas. You will then have to pay the full toll in cash, and at some toll plazas, such vehicles are being stopped and advised to complete the KYV. However, the KYV rules do not include any action such as vehicle seizure. Traffic police cannot seize vehicles for lack of KYV. KYV is part of the FASTag system, not traffic laws.

How to activate KYV?

To activate KYV, first log in to the FASTag provider's website or app.

Then click on Update KYV - Know Your Vehicle.

Enter the FASTag ID and vehicle number here.

Then upload your RC, photo, and other documents.

Complete the OTP or email verification.

After this, your FASTag will appear as Active and Verified.
