What is Kanyashree Yojana, in which girls get the benefit of so many thousand rupees?

Under the scheme, scholarships are given for the education of girls in secondary and higher secondary classes. Along with this, girls are also helped in vocational programs through Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana.

Many welfare schemes are run by the government. Especially for women and girls, the government keeps announcing beneficial schemes every day and these schemes make women and daughters financially strong. A similar scheme is run by the West Bengal government, which is known as Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana. Kanyashree Project Scheme was introduced by the West Bengal government on 8 March 2013. This scheme promotes education as well as prevents child marriage of girls.

So many rupees are given under Kanyashree Yojana in West Bengal.

Under the scheme, scholarships are given for the education of girls in secondary and higher secondary classes. Along with this, girls are also helped with sports and vocational programs through Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana. The amount sent under the Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana is directly transferred to the accounts of eligible girls. Under this scheme, the maximum amount of scholarship was Rs 500 in 2013-14, which has now been increased to Rs 1000.

This amount is given to unmarried girls between 13 and 18 years. Under this, it is also mandatory for girls to be in class from 8th to 12th. Till 2017, only girls from 8th to 12th were included in the scheme, but in 2017 it was extended to postgraduate girls as well. Under this scheme, a maximum of Rs 25,000 is given to girls of 18 years.

To avail of the benefits of the scheme, the girl must be a resident of West Bengal. This scheme is available only to girls aged 13 to 18 years from families with a maximum income of Rs 1,20,000. This cap on annual income does not apply to a girl who has lost both parents or is physically challenged by 40% or more. For this, the girl's birth certificate, proof of the girl being unmarried, proof of family income of Rs 1,20,000, and bank passbook containing the girl's name, address, and account number are required.

To apply for this scheme, you can take the application form from your school and apply by filling in the complete information. If found eligible, the amount of the scheme is sent directly to the account. You can also apply for this scheme by visiting the website www.wbkanyashree.gov.in. If a student wants to renew her scholarship, the process will be the same as for new students. She will have to upload all the documents. However, there is no need of income certificate for Kanyashree Yojana application renewal.
