You can check what information is being shared on WhatsApp by adjusting a few simple settings. Let’s find out how to secure your data in just two minutes by reviewing the Privacy Settings.

Nowadays, WhatsApp is no longer just a tool for chatting; it is also used for personal conversations, sharing photos, videos, and documents, making payments, and exchanging important information. Given this, it is crucial to know what information regarding your WhatsApp profile and activity is visible to others. Fortunately, WhatsApp offers various privacy settings that can be checked and customized to your needs in just a few minutes.

To check your privacy settings on WhatsApp, first open the app. Then, go to Settings and tap on the Privacy option. Here, you will see several settings such as Last Seen and Online, Profile Photo, About, Status, Read Receipts, Groups, and Live Location. By reviewing these one by one, you can decide who gets to see your information.

The Last Seen and Online setting allows you to control who can see when you last used WhatsApp. If you do not want everyone to see this information, you can set it to My Contacts, My Contacts Except…, or Nobody. Similar settings are available for your Online status, allowing you to limit who can see when you are online.

Many people include personal photos and information in their About section. Go to the Privacy section to check the visibility of your Profile Photo and About details. If this information is currently visible to everyone, you can restrict it to just your contacts. You also have the option to exclude specific individuals if necessary.

Personal photos, videos, or updates are often shared via WhatsApp Status. Therefore, do not overlook Status Privacy. Here, you can choose whether your status is visible to all your contacts or only to select people. Options like My Contacts Except… and Only Share With… offer greater control over visibility. If you are being added to various WhatsApp groups without your consent, your ‘Group Privacy Settings’ could be the reason. Go to the ‘Groups’ option within Privacy settings to choose who can add you to groups. Setting this to ‘My Contacts’ reduces the likelihood of strangers adding you directly to groups.

Turning off ‘Read Receipts’ prevents the other person from knowing when you have read a message in a standard chat, although the rules may differ for group chats and certain other scenarios. Additionally, if you have shared your ‘Live Location’ in a chat, make sure to periodically check whether that sharing is still active.

WhatsApp also features a ‘Privacy Checkup’ tool that helps analyze your main privacy settings. Using this, you can review several key options in one place and adjust them according to your preferences. Therefore, taking just two minutes to review your WhatsApp privacy settings is a wise move—especially regarding settings for Profile Photo, Last Seen, Online status, Status updates, and Groups—to ensure your personal information isn’t exposed to more people than necessary.
