The day begins not just with the rising sun but also with petrol and diesel rates, which are updated daily by state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs). Staying informed about these rates is crucial.

Amidst continuous fluctuations in crude oil prices, petrol and diesel rates across the country remain stable today. Currently, the average price of petrol in the country is ₹111.21 per litre, while diesel is priced at ₹97.83 per litre. In Delhi, petrol costs ₹102.12 per litre and diesel ₹95.20 per litre. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, petrol is available at ₹111.21 per litre—unchanged from the previous day's rate—and diesel is priced at ₹97.83 per litre. Fuel prices in Delhi are lower compared to other major metropolitan cities in the country.

Decline in crude oil imports from Russia

India's share of oil imports from Russia decreased in August, while supplies from the Middle East increased. In August, India's imports of Russian oil fell by 16.5% compared to July, dropping to approximately 2.1 million barrels per day (bpd).

Supplies from the Middle East have risen because the UAE's state-owned company, ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), has commenced crude oil shipments from its terminals located outside the Strait of Hormuz, such as Fujairah and Sohar.

Following the recent enactment of the 'Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act'—signed by US President Donald Trump—purchasing oil from Russia has become an economic risk for Indian refineries. This is because the stringent law empowers the US President to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries that purchase oil and gas from Russia. As India is currently negotiating a trade deal with the US, Indian refiners are attempting to gradually reduce their reliance on Russian oil to the 20%–30% range in order to safeguard their broader economic interests.
