Watching Reels on a speaker while traveling on a train could lead to a fine of up to ₹5,000 and even imprisonment
Passengers who listen to music or watch Reels on loudspeakers while traveling on trains are now at risk. The Railways has introduced a policy that imposes a fine of up to ₹5,000 and potential imprisonment for such behavior.
If you play music on a loudspeaker or watch Reels at a high volume while traveling by train, take note: Indian Railways has issued new regulations regarding loud audio. Violating these rules can result in both a fine and a jail term. Here is an overview of the new railway regulations.
Southern Railway has implemented strict rules under Section 145(2) of the Railways Act—as amended by the 'Jan Vishwas' (Amendment of Provisions) Act. If a passenger is caught playing loud music or watching Reels on a loudspeaker, they will face an initial fine of ₹1,000 and will be deboarded from the train. Additionally, the TTE (Train Ticket Examiner) will confiscate their ticket.
Failure to heed the initial warning could lead to a fine of ₹5,000.
Furthermore, if a passenger continues the behavior after the first warning, they could face up to six months in prison, a fine of ₹5,000, or both. The Railways has authorized TTEs to take action in such cases. Announcements and notices will be displayed at stations to raise awareness among passengers.
Railways advises the use of earphones while traveling.
The Railways has urged passengers to use earphones and keep their voices low while traveling, especially in AC coaches. Although the Railway Board had previously issued guidelines in 2012, they proved ineffective. Now, the Railways has made fines mandatory for any violations. Passengers can also report fellow travelers using the 'Rail Madad' app. In fact, the Railway Board had been receiving persistent complaints that passengers—especially in AC coaches—often talk loudly on their mobile phones for long periods or use loud or offensive ringtones, causing significant inconvenience to fellow travelers.
What should passengers do?
Keep your mobile phone on silent or vibration mode, or set the ringtone volume to a low level.
Avoid talking loudly on the phone.
Keep your conversations as brief as possible to ensure a peaceful environment on the train, allowing all passengers to travel comfortably.
