EPFO: When we switch jobs, we often forget to link our PF account from the previous company to the new one, or sometimes technical issues prevent this from happening. Consequently, our hard-earned money remains stuck in those old, forgotten accounts.

To resolve this issue once and for all, the government has launched a new digital portal called E-PRAAPTI. This portal operates entirely using your Aadhaar card. It allows you not only to easily locate your old or dormant PF accounts but also to transfer those funds into your current, active PF account (linked to your UAN).

How will this new portal help you?
The system has been designed to be user-friendly so that the average salaried employee can easily use it. Upon visiting the portal, it verifies your identity using your Aadhaar details. Once your old account is located, you are presented with two options:
First, you can transfer the funds from the old account to your current active PF account, consolidating all your retirement savings in one secure place. Second, if you need the money, you can choose to withdraw (claim) the funds. This means you will no longer have to make repeated visits to offices just to access your own money.

Can you benefit without having old account details?
You might wonder if the portal can help if you do not remember your old PF number or any specific details. Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje clarified this matter when the question was raised in Parliament recently.

She stated that the government currently has no such plan in place. This simply means that to locate your old PF account, you must possess some information regarding that account, or it is essential that the account is linked to your Aadhaar. No More Paperwork Hassles; Middlemen Eliminated
The biggest advantage of this new digital method is that paperwork related to PF will now be virtually eliminated. Previously, updating KYC details for a PF account was a tedious and complicated process, but now you can submit a 'Joint Declaration' form online.

This will significantly speed up the verification of your details. Since the entire claim process has moved online, there will be complete transparency. There will no longer be any scope for middlemen or unnecessary delays in claim settlements.

More Good News for PF Account Holders
In addition to the facility for merging old accounts, there is more great news for EPFO members. The EPFO has started crediting the interest—set at 8.25% for the 2025-26 financial year—into members' PF accounts. This process is moving rapidly, and many employees have already begun receiving SMS notifications confirming the interest credit. You, too, can check your passbook.
