Why is holding area necessary?
A huge crowd of passengers gathers at New Delhi Railway Station during the festive season. To manage this crowd, the Railways is building a permanent holding area towards Ajmeri Gate. This step has been taken taking lessons from the tragic incident that happened during the Maha Kumbh. At that time, 18 people lost their lives due to a stampede at the station. After this incident, the Railways decided to create permanent holding areas at major stations of the country, so that the crowd could be managed and such incidents could be prevented.
