Vande Bharat Express: Indian Railways has launched a special Vande Bharat train for the Jammu-Srinagar route, featuring 'winterization' technology designed to ensure fast and smooth operations even in sub-zero temperatures.

Jammu-Srinagar Train: Indian Railways has unveiled a special 'Vande Bharat' train for the Jammu-Srinagar sector. This train is capable of maintaining high speeds even in temperatures falling below zero degrees. Taking into account the challenging geographical terrain and extreme cold conditions of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Railways has specifically designed and prepared this 'Vande Bharat' train for the Jammu-Srinagar rail section.

This train not only retains its signature semi-high-speed capability but also incorporates—for the first time—'winterization' technology that enables it to operate seamlessly even in sub-zero temperatures.

Special Heating Innovations for Winter

Given the snowy weather conditions of Jammu and Kashmir, several state-of-the-art heating systems have been integrated into this Vande Bharat Express. In a first for Indian Railways, 'self-regulating heating cables' have been utilized to prevent water pipelines from freezing. These cables are capable of automatically adjusting their heat output based on the external temperature.

The train features 1800W silicon heating pads installed within its water tanks. Additionally, special heating arrangements have been made in the bio-tanks and auxiliary tanks to ensure that the sanitation system remains fully functional. Furthermore, for the comfort of passengers, a system has been implemented to channel warm air into the restrooms via special ducts connected to the main air conditioning unit. Heaters and thermal insulation have also been installed in the Indian-style toilets to ensure the continued operation of the vacuum evacuation system.

New Technology for Cold Weather Conditions

To prevent water from accumulating and freezing within the pipes while the train is stabled (parked), a 'water draining' facility has been provided, allowing all the water to be safely drained out. An 'embedded heating element' has been installed in the main windshield located in front of the driver. This technology will prevent the glass from fogging up during periods of fog and snowfall, thereby ensuring clear visibility for the driver. This marks a first-of-its-kind initiative within Indian Railways.

Heaters have also been installed within the air dryer system to ensure the proper functioning of the air brake system. To protect against potential damage caused by stones (ballast) on the tracks, the pneumatic valves situated near the water tanks have been shielded with stainless steel covers.

Key Features of Vande Bharat

Speaking of its key features, this Vande Bharat train comes equipped with a host of other amenities as well:

Speed: An operational speed of 160 km/h.
Comfort: A fully air-conditioned, 8-coach train featuring automatic plug doors and LED lighting.
Safety: CCTV cameras for security, along with an energy-efficient regenerative braking system.
This special Vande Bharat Express stands as an outstanding example of indigenous engineering, promising passengers a safe, fast, and comfortable travel experience amidst the challenging weather conditions of Jammu & Kashmir.

A Major Step Towards All-Weather Connectivity

Commenting on this modern Vande Bharat train, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal stated, "The operation of this special Vande Bharat in the Jammu & Kashmir region fulfills a long-standing demand of both passengers and local residents. Our objective is not merely to provide faster travel, but also to ensure 'all-weather' connectivity—accessibility in every season—even amidst the biting cold of the Valley. In addition to boosting tourism, this train will serve as a strong and reliable bridge connecting devotees traveling to Vaishno Devi with the Kashmir Valley."
