The Vande Bharat Express has currently emerged as the most preferred train service. This is why trains in this category, operating on most routes, are running with an occupancy rate of nearly 100 percent. With these trains offering magnificent amenities, Indian Railways is now preparing to connect even smaller cities to the network. This initiative is set to commence very soon.

While the Vande Bharat chair car trains currently in operation are being manufactured at the ICF in Chennai, the first sleeper version was built at BEML in Bengaluru. Thus far, the production of these premium trains has been concentrated in South India; however, manufacturing is now beginning in North India as well. The first 16-coach Vande Bharat chair car rake has been completed at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala. This trainset was rolled out on March 31, 2026, thereby adding the Kapurthala unit to the list of facilities manufacturing Vande Bharat trains.

Additionally, the manufacturing of Vande Bharat trains is also slated to begin at the Bareilly Coach Factory. The Ministry has already initiated preparations for this purpose. Consequently, Vande Bharat production is set to commence at two new locations.

In this state-of-the-art trainset produced at the Kapurthala Coach Factory, Alstom's propulsion system has been installed. As a result, the train must undergo oscillation trials before being inducted into regular service. These trials will serve to assess the train's ride quality, safety standards, and dynamic performance.

**A Glance at Vande Bharat**

What began in 2018 with just two Vande Bharat trainsets has now evolved into a rapidly accelerating journey. To date, a total of 97 Vande Bharat chair car trains have been manufactured—all of which were produced at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. With this new production facility in Kapurthala, the pace of high-speed train manufacturing within the country is set to accelerate significantly.
