The central government has issued the rules for UPS. Now employees can go from NPS to UPS by choosing the lump sum option. In this, apart from 50% pension on 20 years of service and monthly pension, many other facilities will be available.
A big update has come from the central government regarding retirement for employees. The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority has issued detailed rules regarding the switch between Unified Pension Scheme and National Pension System. Now employees can go from UPS to NPS by choosing the lump sum option, but many conditions have been fixed in this.
Rules related to the switch
Shifting from UPS to NPS will be allowed only once, there will be no option for return.
This option can be taken at least 1 year before superannuation or 3 months before voluntary retirement.
Employees against whom departmental action or disciplinary cases are pending or who have been removed from service will not be able to avail this facility.
Employees who do not choose the option within the time limit will automatically be considered under UPS.
Also, the government has clarified that employees who are in NPS after 30 September 2025 will not be able to choose UPS. This last date will also apply to those retired NPS subscribers and existing employees who want to join UPS.
What will be the benefit in UPS
On completing at least 20 years of service in UPS, 50% of the average basic pay of the last 12 months will be given as pension at the time of retirement.
At the same time, even after 10 years of service, the employee will be assured of a pension of at least Rs 10,000 per month.
Apart from this, employees will have to contribute 10% of their basic salary and DA, while the government will contribute 18.5%.
At the same time, in the event of the death of the employee, his life partner will get 60% of the pension.
Employees will also get inflation relief on pension, which will provide protection from inflation even after retirement.
Employees will also get gratuity in both retirement and death situations.
A lump sum amount will also be given on superannuation which will be decided according to the years of service.
How can you avail the benefits
Employees can apply both online and offline to choose the option of UPS. To apply online, you have to go to the official website and register for UPS. After this, you have to choose the option of Migrate from NPS to UPS. After this, you have to fill the required details and submit it. For offline application, you have to download and fill the form related to the process and submit it to your DDO. After this, your application form will be sent to the PAO. You have to complete this process by 30 September.
