Target to increase UPI transactions
NPCI has taken this decision at a time when retail payment operators have set a target to increase the use of UPI options for transactions. Digital transactions have emerged rapidly in India since the demonetization in 2016.
Cases have reduced significantly.
In this case, the National Payments Interface of India had already advised people to use alphanumeric characters instead of special characters for UPI ID. After which many people accepted it, but still some users are not following it. Now NPCI is going to be strict to get it followed. So that no UPI transaction uses any special character in the ID.
Such transactions will not be accepted.
The central system will not accept all such transactions whose UPI ID includes special characters. NPCI has also advised all banking institutions to strictly comply with this.
