UPI Transactions: The popularity of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) in India is increasing rapidly day by day. As a result, in August 2025, UPI created a new history in terms of digital transactions. According to the data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), in the month of August, there was a rain of money through UPI and the number of transactions through it crossed 20 billion, which is a big sign of the strength of India's digital economy.

Huge jump in transaction number and value

According to NPCI, a total of 20.01 billion UPI transactions were recorded in August. In terms of value, it was Rs 24.85 lakh crore. Last year in August 2024, this figure was only 14.9 billion transactions and Rs 20.60 lakh crore. That is, there was an increase of 34% in the number of transactions and 21% in value.

UPI performance in July and May

In May 2025, UPI transaction value touched an all-time high, which was Rs 25.14 lakh crore. At the same time, in July 2025, there were 19.47 billion transactions in terms of volume. In August, this number was crossed and a new record was created. However, in terms of value, it was slightly less than July (Rs 25.08 lakh crore).

Average daily transactions

In August 2025, an average of 64.5 crore UPI transactions took place every day. Their average value was Rs 80,177 crore. This shows that digital payments are now being widely adopted not only in urban areas but also in rural India.

What do experts say

Spice Money CEO Dilip Modi said that crossing the figure of 20.01 billion transactions in August 2025 shows the depth and strength of India's digital infrastructure. This achievement will prove effective in moving India rapidly towards a cashless economy.
