UPI has made payment very easy. We can send money to anyone instantly by just scanning the mobile number or QR. But sometimes mistakes are made in haste. Like entering the wrong number, adding/reducing one zero, or sending money to the wrong account. In such a situation, the biggest question is whether this money can be recovered. And if yes, then how will it be recovered? Don't worry, we will tell you how you can get back the money sent through the wrong UPI.

Check transaction details immediately.
If you have mistakenly sent money to the wrong number or account, then first open your UPI app, Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or BHIM UPI. Go to transaction history here and see the details.

Check which account the money has gone to. Note down the transaction ID and UTR number of the payment. After this, immediately contact the customer support of the UPI app.

Every UPI app has a help or customer support option. You can go there and report the wrong transaction. You can file a complaint by entering the transaction ID. The app team tries to get the money back by contacting the receiver bank.

Contact your bank
If you do not get a solution on the app, then you can directly go to your bank branch or call the customer care number. Tell the bank the transaction ID and date. The bank will send a request to the receiver bank to reverse the wrong payment.

File a complaint with NPCI.
UPI is operated by NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India). If you do not get help from both the bank and the app, then you can go to the NPCI website and file a complaint. If the amount is large, then you can complain to the nearest police cybercrime cell. You should have the payment screenshot, transaction ID, and app details. The police and the bank can try to recover the money together.

Keep these things in mind.
Always double-check the account number / mobile number before sending money. While scanning the QR code, make sure that the receiver's name is correct or not. If you send money by mistake, take immediate action. Delay may make it difficult to get the money back.
