UPI Tips: Did you make a mistake in UPI transfer? Know how to get your money back..

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has made it very easy to transfer money in India. However, with this facility, the risk of accidentally sending money to the wrong UPI ID has also increased. If you have made such a mistake, then there is no need to panic. Here's what you should do immediately.
1. Contact the recipient directly
If the recipient's phone number is linked to the UPI ID, call or message them. Explain the situation calmly and request them to return the money. Many times people cooperate and return the money without any formal complaint.
2. Report through the UPI app
All major UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM have support options. Go to your transaction history, select the wrong transfer, and choose the option of 'Raise a Dispute' or 'Report an Issue'. Provide information like transaction ID, UPI ID, amount, and date. Taking timely action increases the chances of getting the money back.
3. Inform your bank immediately
Contact your bank's customer service and report the error. Banks usually have mechanisms to resolve UPI disputes and can initiate the reversal process. They may ask you for a written complaint or suggest you visit the nearest branch.
4. Contact NPCI
If the app or bank does not help, contact the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Visit www.npci.org.in and file a complaint in the Dispute Redressal section with transaction details and supporting documents such as screenshots or bank statements.
5. Contact the RBI Ombudsman
If there is no resolution even after 30 days, you can file a complaint with the Digital Transaction Ombudsman of the Reserve Bank of India through the RBI CMS portal. This is especially useful when the amount is important.
Tips to avoid UPI mistakes
1. Always double-check the UPI ID and amount before confirming it.
2. Confirm the recipient's name after entering the ID.
3. Be cautious while scanning QR codes.
4. Avoid clicking on unknown UPI links. Beware of fraud.
