UPI New Rules: 4 major changes are going to happen in the financial sector of the country from August. These changes will directly affect your daily transactions, travel, and card benefits. These changed rules include new rules related to UPI transactions, a new Fastag annual card for private vehicles, and withdrawal of free insurance cover on SBI credit cards. These are the changes that will come into effect this month.

1. Changes in UPI

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has implemented some new rules to improve the quality of UPI transactions. Now, banks and apps related to UPI will have to limit the number of requests, like checking balance. Also, the use of some APIs, such as autopay mandate and address verification, will be regulated.

2. Changes in SBI credit card

From August 11, 2025, SBI Card is going to discontinue the free air accident insurance facility being offered on many co-branded credit cards. This will affect holders of premium cards like ELITE and PRIME and some Platinum cards. Now these cards will not get the accident insurance facility of up to Rs 1 crore or Rs 50 lakh, which was earlier available as an additional benefit.

3. Punjab National Bank (PNB) KYC update
PNB has asked its customers to update the KYC information of their bank accounts before 8 August 2025 so that the accounts continue to run normally. This is being done as per RBI guidelines. This KYC update is necessary for those customers whose KYC information has not been updated by 30 June 2025.

4. FASTag Annual Pass
The new FASTag annual pass will be available for private vehicle owners from August 15, 2025. This pass will be available for Rs 3,000 and will be valid for one year or 200 toll transactions (whichever is completed first). This scheme has been introduced to provide an economical and convenient option to frequent highway travellers. It is not mandatory to get this annual pass; those who wish can use FASTag in the existing way.
