UPI Payment: Digital payments have become an integral part of our lives today. We can step out of the house without a wallet and remain worry-free, as we can easily use UPI. To enhance user convenience, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) regularly introduces new features to UPI; UPI Lite is one such feature.
UPI Lite is a faster, lightweight version of UPI, launched specifically to streamline small-value payments. Its key advantage is that it eliminates the need to repeatedly enter a UPI PIN, and payments go through easily even when internet speeds are low.
What is UPI Lite?
UPI Lite was launched in 2023 to facilitate small digital transactions. It functions as an on-device wallet where you can pre-load funds and use them to make small payments as needed.
The UPI Lite wallet limit, initially set at ₹1,000, has been increased to ₹5,000. While the total limit for small transactions is ₹5,000, there is a cap of ₹1,000 per single transaction.
What are the benefits of UPI Lite?
You do not need to enter your UPI PIN repeatedly for small payments.
Small expenses made via UPI Lite do not clutter your bank statement with individual entries; they can be easily viewed within the UPI app.
You can make small payments even in areas with poor internet connectivity.
How to activate UPI Lite?
Open your UPI app, such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or BHIM.
Tap on the UPI Lite option within the app.
Accept the terms and conditions.
Select your bank account and add money to the wallet by entering your UPI PIN for the first time.
