Under the ambitious PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana) scheme of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, work is underway to promote solar energy across the state. The objective of the scheme is to provide consumers with up to 300 units of free electricity per month by installing solar panels on the rooftops of 10 million homes across the country.
Providing information in this regard, Backward Classes Welfare Officer and Project Officer Lavesh Kumar Sisodia stated that the scheme is being implemented by the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.
Subsidy up to ₹78,000
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana will not only reduce electricity bills, but consumers will also be able to generate additional electricity and generate additional income by selling it to the grid. Under the scheme, eligible consumers are being provided a subsidy of up to ₹78,000 directly into their bank accounts for solar plant installation.
A subsidy of ₹30,000 is available for a 1-kilowatt capacity, ₹60,000 for a 2-kilowatt capacity, and ₹78,000 for a 3-kilowatt capacity. This subsidy is transferred directly to the beneficiary's account after completing the prescribed procedures, ensuring transparency.

The application process is completely online and simple. Interested individuals can apply by registering on the scheme's official website. After applying, approval must be obtained from the relevant discom.
After receiving approval, it is mandatory to install solar panels and upload net meter information and bank account details to the portal. Upon completion of all formalities, the subsidy amount is transferred directly to the bank account. Additionally, an unsecured loan facility is also available for solar plants up to 3 kilowatts at an interest rate of approximately 7 percent, providing financial assistance to ordinary citizens.
Who can benefit from the scheme?
To avail of the scheme, applicants must be Indian citizens, have a rooftop solar panel, have a valid electricity connection, and have not previously availed of any other solar subsidy scheme. Aadhaar card, latest electricity bill, bank passbook, mobile number, and email ID are required documents for the application.
