Furthermore, the Chief Minister has announced an increase in allowances for constables and head constables deployed on field duty.
Largest Increase in Uniform Allowance
Among the three major announcements made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the most significant increase is in the uniform allowance. Under the new rates, the uniform allowance for PPS (Provincial Police Service) officers has been raised by 134.4 percent—increasing from ₹6,400 to ₹15,000.
Motorcycle Allowance Raised to ₹1,000
Following this decision by the UP government, the motorcycle allowance for sub-inspectors and inspectors deployed on field duty has been increased from ₹700 to ₹1,000 per month—an additional ₹300 per month. This represents a 43 percent increase in the motorcycle allowance.
Allowances for Constables and Head Constables Also Increased
The Yogi government has also increased the allowances for constables and head constables deployed on field duty. Previously, they received ₹2,000 per month; this has now been raised to ₹2,500 per month. This means that the allowances for constables and head constables have been increased by approximately 500 rupees. Consequently, there has been a 25 percent increase in the allowances for constables and head constables deployed on field duty.
CM Yogi praises police officers
During these announcements, CM Yogi also commended the police administration. He remarked that there was a time when the police would hesitate before taking action against criminals. Whenever action was initiated against a criminal, the police would receive calls from the corridors of power, and often, it was the officers who took the action who ended up facing the consequences. That is no longer the case; the police in Uttar Pradesh can now take action against criminals without any constraints. CM Yogi stated that upon coming to power in 2017, his administration broke the political shackles that had bound the police.
815 riots occurred between 2012 and 2017
In his address, CM Yogi Adityanath noted that 815 riots took place in Uttar Pradesh between 2012 and 2017. Such riots in the state adversely affect the shops of ordinary citizens, the livelihoods of laborers, and the education of children. The Chief Minister also spoke about resolving the law-and-order challenges of that period and ensuring that the police force remains free from political interference.
