UP Government’s Diwali Gift: Free LPG Cylinder Refill for Over 4 Lakh Ujjwala Scheme Beneficiaries
As the festive season of Diwali approaches, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a special gift for families under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). In a bid to ease household expenses during the celebrations, over four lakh Ujjwala beneficiaries in the Hardoi district will receive a free LPG cylinder refill.
According to district officials, this initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support women from economically weaker households by reducing their dependency on traditional cooking fuels and ensuring access to clean energy.
Free LPG Refill Under Ujjwala Scheme
Under the Ujjwala Yojana, the Government of India provides eligible connection holders with the benefit of two free LPG refills every year. The first phase typically runs from October to December, while the second phase is active between January and March. This Diwali, Hardoi district alone will see around 4,18,439 verified beneficiaries receiving the refill subsidy directly into their linked bank accounts.
However, authorities have also highlighted that around 1,06,000 beneficiaries in the district have yet to complete their Aadhaar linkage and e-KYC process. To ensure no one is left out, these consumers are being urged to immediately visit their respective bank branches or LPG agencies to complete the required documentation. Once verified, they too will become eligible for the free refill benefit.
District Administration’s Special Instructions
The District Supply Officer (DSO) has issued a directive emphasizing the need for swift completion of the e-KYC and Aadhaar-linking process. The DSO has also instructed the Lead Bank Manager to ensure that all banks across the district are equipped to handle e-KYC requests efficiently.
This proactive step is aimed at avoiding any delays in processing LPG refill subsidies and ensuring that the government’s festive gift reaches every eligible household on time.
The free refill will not only reduce financial pressure on low-income families during Diwali but also encourage the continued use of LPG for cooking — a cleaner and healthier alternative to traditional fuels like wood and coal.
How Beneficiaries Can Avail the Offer
Beneficiaries registered under the Ujjwala Yojana in Hardoi district can easily claim their free refill by booking their LPG cylinder through their respective distributors. Once the booking is made, the subsidy amount will be directly credited to their bank accounts linked with their Aadhaar.
