Who can get an Ayushman card?
According to the government guidelines for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana (PM-JAY), the Ayushman card is primarily intended for the country's poor, destitute, and economically weaker families. This includes families living in *kutcha* (makeshift/mud) houses in villages, landless laborers, members of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST), and urban workers such as ragpickers, street vendors, rickshaw pullers, and domestic workers. Government employees, salaried workers, taxpayers, and affluent families living in large, permanent houses are not eligible for this scheme.
However, under a new government decision, all elderly individuals aged 70 years or older are now eligible for this scheme, regardless of their income level.
How to check Ayushman card eligibility?
You can easily check your Ayushman card eligibility online from the comfort of your home by visiting the National Health Authority's (NHA) official beneficiary portal. To do this, simply follow the easy steps listed below:
First, visit the NHA Beneficiary Portal.
Click on the 'Beneficiary' option on the portal's main page.
Enter your mobile number and click on 'Verify'.
Log in by entering the OTP received on your mobile phone.
After logging in, select your state and choose 'PMJAY' under the scheme options.
Select your district. Next, go to the 'Search By' section, where you can choose one of the following options: Ration Card number, Aadhaar Card number, or name.
Enter your Aadhaar number or Ration Card number and click on the search icon displayed next to it.
If your family is eligible for this scheme, a list containing the names of all family members will appear on the screen.
For members whose cards can be issued or have already been issued, the status (such as 'Approved' or 'Identified') will be displayed next to their names.
Once your name is on the eligibility list, you can get your Ayushman Card made completely free of charge—either from the comfort of your home using your mobile phone or by visiting a nearby center.
How to get an Ayushman Card made from home?

Next, enter details such as your mobile number, PIN code, and whether you reside in a rural or urban area.
After filling in all the details, click on 'Submit'.
If your data matches the Aadhaar records, the card is approved immediately, and the option to download it becomes available shortly thereafter.
What documents are required to get an Ayushman Card made?
Primarily, only two documents are required to get an Ayushman Card made: your 'Aadhaar Card' and your family's 'Ration Card'. The Aadhaar Card is used for personal identification and biometric verification, while the Ration Card is used to verify whether your name is included in the government eligibility list. Additionally, you must have an active mobile number capable of receiving an OTP. There is absolutely no need to provide any income or caste certificates.
