iPhone Security Feature: A new feature is soon arriving on the iPhone that will further bolster its security. With this update, the iPhone will automatically lock itself in the event of theft or snatching.

iPhone Security Feature: There is good news for iPhone users. The most robust security feature to date is soon coming to the iPhone. While the iPhone is already renowned for its security features; this new addition will take security a step further. Consequently, even if your iPhone is stolen while it is unlocked, the thief will be unable to do anything with it. The iPhone will automatically detect the moment it is snatched and will immediately lock itself. Let’s explore this in greater detail.

Current Security Features Available on iPhone

Currently, the iPhone offers security features such as “Find My” (along with Activation Lock) and “Stolen Device Protection.” As soon as you activate “Find My iPhone,” the Activation Lock is automatically enabled alongside it. Subsequently, if anyone attempts to restore the iPhone or delete its data, they are required to provide the email address and password associated with the user’s Apple account. Regarding “Stolen Device Protection,” this feature alters several settings. When the iPhone is located outside of a “trusted location,” biometric verification is required to unlock it. If the verification attempt fails, the user is granted another opportunity to try only after a one-hour waiting period. This makes it nearly impossible to use a stolen device.

How Will the New Feature Work?

All the features mentioned above are effective only when the iPhone is locked at the time of theft. If the iPhone is stolen while it is unlocked, these features do not function. Apple is now aiming to address this specific vulnerability. Utilizing the iPhone’s accelerometer and other internal sensors, the new feature will be able to detect whether the device has been snatched. The moment this event is detected, the iPhone will automatically lock itself. Furthermore, if a user has paired their iPhone with an Apple Watch, the device will also monitor the distance between the two devices. Once a stolen iPhone is locked, all the security protocols applicable to stolen devices will be enforced on it.

When can we expect this new feature?

According to reports, Apple is currently working on this feature. As of now, no timeline regarding its launch has been released. It is expected that this feature—which is crucial from a security standpoint—will be rolled out as soon as possible. It is worth noting that a similar feature, known as “Theft Detection Lock,” is already available on Android phones.
