UIDAI Revises Aadhaar Service Fees: Higher Charges for Updates, Free Relief for Children

Updating your Aadhaar card has just become more expensive. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has revised the charges for various Aadhaar-related services, including updates to name, photo, and address. However, children have been given a major relief under the new structure. Biometric updates for certain age groups will remain completely free of cost, ensuring that young Aadhaar holders can easily keep their records current.

The revised fee structure came into effect on October 1, 2025, and will remain valid until September 30, 2028. UIDAI has also announced the next cycle of charges, which will apply from October 1, 2028, to September 30, 2031.

Increased Charges for Aadhaar Updates

Under the new pricing, most Aadhaar services have seen a hike of ₹25 or more.

Services that earlier cost ₹50 will now be charged at ₹75.
Those that cost ₹75 have been increased to ₹90.
Services priced at ₹100 will now cost ₹125.
From October 2028, services currently costing ₹125 will further rise to ₹150.

These adjustments are aimed at keeping up with operational expenses and improving service efficiency across enrollment and update centers.

Biometric Updates: Free for Children, Paid for Adults

Biometric data such as fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs are key to Aadhaar authentication. Under the revised structure:

Children aged 5 to 7 years can update their biometrics free of cost.
Teenagers between 15 and 17 years are also eligible for one free biometric update.
For all other age groups, the biometric update fee has been set at ₹125.

Additionally, to encourage timely updates, UIDAI has waived the biometric update charges for children aged 7 to 15 years until September 30, 2026. According to UIDAI, this initiative will help clear the backlog of Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) more efficiently.

Demographic Update Charges

Demographic updates include changes to name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile number, or email ID.

If these updates are done along with a biometric update, they will be free of charge.
If done separately, users will now have to pay ₹75, up from the earlier ₹50.

Document Update Charges

Updating Aadhaar details using identity or address proof documents can be done both online and at enrollment centers.

Through the myAadhaar portal, document updates will remain free until June 14, 2026.
At physical Aadhaar enrollment centers, the charge has been raised to ₹75, compared to the earlier ₹50.

Aadhaar generation (0–5 years): Free
Aadhaar generation (above 5 years): Free
Mandatory biometric updates (5–7 and 15–17 years): Free
Other biometric updates: ₹125
Demographic updates: ₹75

Aadhaar search and printout: ₹40

Revised Fee List (Effective: October 1, 2028 – September 30, 2031)

Other biometric updates: ₹150
Demographic updates: ₹90
Document updates (center or online): ₹90

Home Enrollment and Update Services

For users who prefer doorstep Aadhaar services, UIDAI has set a charge of ₹700 (including GST) for home visits. If multiple people at the same address avail the service, the first person will be charged ₹700, while each additional person will pay ₹350.

With these revised rates, UIDAI aims to streamline Aadhaar maintenance, ensuring timely updates while balancing operational costs. The continued relief for children reflects the authority’s effort to encourage accurate Aadhaar data across all age groups — a crucial step in keeping India’s largest digital identity program both reliable and up-to-date.
