UIDAI provides relief to millions of families! Updating your child's Aadhaar is now free, eliminating scholarship problems..

UIDAI Aadhaar Update: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has taken a major step, providing relief to millions of families. UIDAI has waived all fees for the mandatory biometric update (MBU) for children. This move is expected to directly benefit approximately 60 million children across the country. This new system has come into effect from October 1, 2025, and will remain in effect for the next year. This move will make it easier to avail of education, scholarship, and DBT schemes.
What were the Aadhaar rules?
According to current rules, when a child is under five years of age, their Aadhaar card is generated based only on details such as photo, name, date of birth, and address. Due to their young age, fingerprints and iris prints are not taken, as they are not fully developed. Therefore, when a child turns five, it is necessary to update their fingerprint, iris, and a new photo in their Aadhaar data. This process is called Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU-1).
This much fee was required to be paid.
According to the rules, upon reaching the age of 15, a child must update their biometrics once again, which is called the second mandatory biometric update. Previously, this update was free between the ages of 5 and 7, but after this period, a fee of ₹125 was charged. Following the UIDAI's new decision, MBU is now completely free for all children between the ages of 5 and 17.
Easier access to government schemes
It should be noted that Aadhaar with updated biometrics makes it easier for children to avail of various government schemes and services, such as school admission, registration for entrance exams, scholarship schemes, and DBT schemes. UIDAI has advised all parents and guardians to update the biometrics of their children on a priority basis.
